"Am back from the vet and the news is good in one way and bad in another. First, the bad. Tim will not improve as far as the paralysis goes. The x-ray showed that his spine at the very bottom is properly formed, and up by his head is properly formed.  But the middle part is sort of fused together in an undetermined mass. The vet feels he had a severe calcium deficiency which caused the abnormality. The good news is that, as we thought, he has no pain (and no feeling, either) from this. What we're seeing as "movement" is reflex of muscles.

Also, the spots behind his ears and under his neck were getting worse again. Vet examined him and determined that he has lice (he saw the eggs but no lice). He gave him an injection of Ivermectin (I think the dose I did was too low) and gave me two more syringes to give him two more treatments the next two weeks.

We talked about where he might have gotten them. He said he's seen an epidemic of lice and is thinking it could be coming in on bedding. I asked him about hay, and he said that's a definite possibility, and what they do is freeze the hay for a week. So, I'm cleaning everything out of Tim's cage, I've got the box of hay in the freezer. He said Tim should look pretty well cleared up by the end of a week.

Other than that, he said he's really impressed at how well he's doing. He expected to see sores from dragging, etc., but he looks good. Also checked his teeth and said they're fine, too. So, it boils down to: do what we're doing. Keep giving him the Vitamin C supplement (or citrus) daily. No need to give him calcium, since he gets enough in the kale. Take care of the lice.  And keep on keepin' on.

Here's a breakdown of the vet bill:

Skin scraping:                $13.70
Radiology (thorax/abd.):  $98.60
Injection SQ:                  $23.90
Exotic animal exam:       $42.30
Copy x-ray to cd:            $29.00

Total was $207.50. Ouch! We just about had a sitcom situation for a few minutes. They didn't tell me they don't accept out-of-state checks until I was ready to pay. ... Fortunately, I had enough ... to pay for it! I don't know what they would have done, if I didn't - held Tiny Tim hostage?"

Please note, a generous donation was received from Janet and Tom that covered Tiny Tim's vet bill. Thanks for caring!
